Acne Cure Evening skincare routine

Check out my evening skincare routine based on Dr. Terry Dubrow’s book, The Acne Cure.

You might have noticed my lovely wrinkled dress. I filmed at night after working from home, so I didn’t have on “real” clothes. LOL! I try to be a little more put together next time. :)

Acne Cure morning routine

As promised, here is my Acne Cure morning routine:

Here are the products that I referenced in my video:

Cleansers:
Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash
Alpha Hydrox Nourishing Cleanser

Moisturizer:
Neutrogena Sun Shield Day Lotion (from Advanced Solutions Complete Acne Therapy System)

To avoid buying the whole kit, you may want to try Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Combination Skin.  I HAVE NOT used this product, but the product description on Drugstore.com makes me think it might be a good alternative. Leave me a message in the comments to let me know if this is a good product.

Eye cream:
Origins Youthtopia

May L’Oreal haul and more

I’ve never done one of these haul posts before.  My godsister, Alex, had to explain the concept of a haul to me because I thought that it was slang for shoplifting.  We’ll see how this goes.

  1. Milani Infinite Liquid Eye Liner, Endless
  2. L’Oreal H.I.P Concentrated Shadow Duo, Charisma
  3. CoverGirl Smokey Shadow Blast, Bronze Fire
  4. L’Oreal Le Kohl, Smoke

I wanted to get a great purple eyeshadow for spring, so I got the L’Oreal H.I.P. Concentrated Shadow Duo in Charisma.  Then I saw this new liquid liner from Milani called Infinite Liquid Eye Liner.  I bought it in Endless, which is a really pretty shimmery purple shade.

I’m interested to see if I can use them both together.  I want to experiment with doing bright eyes for spring.  I’m not crazy about this trend because I’ve seen a lot of instances of bright eyes where the color is so bright that it’s distracting.  I know that this is a major trend, but make-up should always enhance, never distract.  But I’m up for the challenge and I’ll see if I can make it work. I’ll post the look when I do.

I also got CoverGirl’s Smokey Shadow Blast in Bronze Fire.  I already have it in Silver Sky.  I like the convenience of it, but the pigment is not very strong on brown skin.  It creates a nice effect, but it is far from a smokey eye.  I decided to give Bronze Fire a try because I saw an ad featuring Queen Latifah wearing that shade and it looked really pretty on her.  We’ll see if I can make it work in real life.

I also got a random eye pencil from the Le Kohl pencil line of L’Oreal in Smoke.  I’ve been shopping around for a great gray liner.  Sometimes I don’t want the intensity of a black liner, but I still want to wear liner.  In those cases, gray is a great alternative.  I’ve never used this line before, so I’m hoping that the pigment will be intense enough.

After I try everything out, I’ll post a few product reviews.  Until then. :)

Book review: The Acne Cure by Terry J. Dubrow

May 16, 2010 - 3:51 pm 2 Comments

Last year, my tried and true Neutrogena’s Advanced Solutions Complete Acne System completely stopped working.  In a panic, I started buying new skincare products, but nothing worked.  The new products were only making my skin angry.  When my skin gets angry, it gets even by giving me more breakouts.  It was a nightmare.

Finally, I came across The Acne Cure by Terry J. Dubrow.  I read reviews on Amazon.com and even tried to steal a routine I found in the comments section.   Then I finally broke down and bought the book.

Now I’m about to sound like an infomercial, but after working Dr. Dubrow’s program for 2 months, I can honestly say that my skin has never been so clear.  I only wish that I had taken pictures of how icky my skin looked before so that I could have proof of how well this program works.

The great thing about this program is that you can find all of the products that he suggests at most drugstores for less than $30.  If you are having a problem with acne, I would strongly suggest that you check out this book.  It’s a quick read and really informative.

At a later date, I’ll post my skin care regimen so you can see what products I used.
